Oscar-Winning Actress, Regina King

Oscar-winning actress Regina King has a decades-spanning career in Hollywood and shows no sign of slowing down.  In addition to the Academy Award, King won a Golden Globe, an Independent Spirit Award and the prestigious National Board of Review award for her supporting role as ‘Sharon Rivers’ in Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of James Baldwin’s If Beale Street Could Talk.  King has won four Primetime Emmy Awards in recent years; one for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie’ for her work in the Netflix racial crime drama Seven Seconds and had won two previously in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie’ category for her role in the ABC anthology series American Crime.  King went on to star as the lead role in HBO’s critically hailed Peabody Award-winning Watchmen series from creator Damon Lindelof based on and inspired by the DC comic book, once again earning her another ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie’ Primetime Emmy Win.  This marked the second time King has teamed up with Lindelof – they last collaborated on HBO’s The Leftovers, for which King won a Critics’ Choice award during the series’ second season.  Next up, she is part of an all-star cast in Netflix’s upcoming western film The Harder They Fall with Idris Elba slated for streaming release November 3, 2021.  Additionally, it has been announced that King will portray America’s first Black Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in the feature Shirley once again teaming up with writer/director John Ridley which will be produced by Participant.

Over the past few years, King has also stepped behind the camera directing episodes of critically acclaimed television series such as NBC’s award-winning THIS IS US, ABC’s Scandal, TNT’s Animal Kingdom, ABC’s The Good Doctor and HBO's Insecure among others.  Most recently on the directing front, Amazon Studios acquired and released to rave reviews her directorial feature film debut One Night in Miami based on the play from Kemp Powers, who adapted it for the big screen. With this, King made history being the first black female director to debut a film at the 77th Annual Venice International Film Festival.  One Night in Miami has earned a slew of award nominations thus far including but not limited to a Golden Globe nom for “Best Director – Feature Film,” SAG Awards nom for “Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture,” Critics Choice noms for “Best Picture,” “Best Director” and “Best Acting Ensemble” as well as a “First Time Feature Film” nomination for the 73rd Annual DGA Awards and three nominations at the 93rd Academy Awards among others.

King is known for many memorable feature film roles such as her turn as Cuba Gooding Jr.’s wife ‘Marci’ in the blockbuster film Jerry Maguire, as well as How Stella Got Her Groove Back with Angela Bassett, the hit action thriller Enemy of the State opposite Will Smith, the family adventure Mighty Joe Young with Charlize Theron, Boys N the Hood written and directed by the late John Singleton, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous alongside Sandra Bullock, Cinderella Story opposite Hilary Duff, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde with Reese Witherspoon, Daddy Day Care opposite Eddie Murphy and portraying ‘Margie Hendricks’ in the Oscar-nominated Ray opposite Jamie Foxx.  Additionally, she is known for her voice-work on the popular animated series, The Boondocks

Jamie Golden

Jamie Golden has been cohosting The Popcast with Knox McCoy since August 2013. It is a nationally ranked, weekly pop culture podcast that’s part deep dive, mostly shallow end. Jamie and Knox also launched The Bible Binge in February of 2018. Her podcasts are consistently in the top 3% of all podcasts, with more than 16 million downloads combined. She makes her home in Birmingham, Alabama, where she advocates for foster and adopted children serving as a volunteer for Heart Gallery Alabama. Jamie also helps people tell their own stories better by serving with Arc Stories, a local nonprofit.
